7 Tips for Engaging Readers in a Business Blog

Engaging business blog readers

Engaging business blog readers

Your prospective readers are busy, and in order to gain and keep the readership as a blogger, you really need to offer your readers content that makes their lives better, easier, and less hectic. Sometimes it’s really difficult for a Business blog to write something that is interesting and appealing to a wider audience, because the subject matter always tends to be a bit dry and boring. So it’s entirely up to you as the blogger to really spice things up a bit and, at the same time continue to provide some additional value by providing the business information and message that you need to pass along to your readers.

How do you do that? Well, to make your life easier here are seven tips that can help you to engage readers of your business blog.

1. Offer Useful (but Free) Advice to your Readers

If you are running a business blog then you very likely have hands on experience running one. One way to gain loyal readers in your blog is to share some of your knowledge and experience (that you have learned the hard way) and giving your readers practical information that they themselves can apply in their own businesses. You can give your readers an instant benefit by avoiding abstract ideas and providing specific tips, advice and tools they can use right away for Free.

2. Build a Relationship with your Audience

Your audience already has a similar mindset as you, which is why they are reading what you have to say. So try to build a relationship with your audience by making an effort to know them personally. One easy way of doing so is via the comments. When someone leaves a comment on your site, you should always thank them and give your own reply. Also if they have left their blog URL in the comments, you should also check out their blog and leave a comment. This really strengthens the relationship and both of you will eventually win from this. Also keep an eye on your trackbacks and monitor when someone links to one of your posts. Sometimes other bloggers will try to indirectly start a conversation with you via blogs thus you really need to keep track of everything that is being said about you on the web.

3. Be a Person and not Business

You often need to have a bit of personal connection with your business. Today there is an increasing amount of overlap between business and personal life, and often people want to know a little more about the person behind the blog, beyond that they are an expert in business. Always have a bit of personal touch in your writing and share something about yourself to create a stronger relationship with the readers.

4. Keep It Short and Sweet

Think of the really long emails that you get, do you ever read them fully? But when something is short and to the point it’s often more readable and can be easily consumed. If the topic that you are covering involves a lot of information, splitting it up into a multi-part series may be a good idea. Try to use lists, subheadings and images to break up heavy content into smaller parts whenever possible.

5. Go Off-Topic for a change

You may want to sometimes write posts that are not directly related to your business. Sometimes writing too much business stuff may bore your readers. Occasionally, you can have some comic relief, mindless banter and maybe even a personal post to allow your readers to have a brief change of pace.

6. Ask a question

Sometimes asking direct and specific question at the end of your post often encourages readers to participate and write a comment. Ask directed and specific questions at the end of your posts to encourage reader commentary. For every few posts where you provide advice, throw in a post that asks for the answer. Involving your readers will give them an opportunity to take an active role in your blog.

7. Give readers what they want

Carefully read the comments and answers of poll provided by your readers. They are invaluable because they allow you to tailor your posts to the information your readers are asking you to provide. Acknowledge all their comments, answer the questions, and address the requests and you’re on your way to building great relationships with your readers.

Hopefully by following some of the tips you would be able to engage your audience in your blog better.
