2011 Top 20 Small Business Trends

discrete consumerism

Absolut No Label - discrete consumerism

Small business owners must find way to fight “mediocre-ness” – or else, they will turn theirs into boring, unattractive businesses that offer less and less value to their customers and clients. In order to go from good to great, you need to tap into the trends; into the consumers’ mind to understand what they think is hip, hot and useful today.

Related to our previous article about Trend Hunter’s 2011 Trend Report, here is the top 20 list of consumer trends for 2011 that can give you some business ideas to grow your existing business or start a new one based on the trend, courtesy of Trend Hunter.

My personal favourite: Discrete Consumerism.

As consumers are shifting from big-brand-minded into small-and-personalised-brand-minded, 2011 will be a great year for small businesses, including business startups, to prove that they are adaptive and responsive to consumers’ needs and wants – way much better than their bigger counterparts.

My only recommendation for you is to ride the wave and never look back.

What is your favourite Trend Hunter’s 2011 trend forecast?

That is a very interesting video Ivan. I think I picked 3 or 4 different favourites out of the 20 that were included in this video clip. I have to say that no.20 is very interesting as it indicates the trend that consumers are moving from big, established brands to those that demonstrate creativity and differentiation.
I also find the opportunity of Toddle Touchcreens very interesting for new generation kids and their young parents.
I wonder if these ideas are only for small businesses, or if the world’s super giants are planning to have a huge piece of the market.

    Alex,

One thing for sure, the big guys are sourcing the ideas from the same source :)

Great video! I think that so many of these business trends are dead on. Personally, I look forward to social medias roll in the future of business. I think that a personal touch to business is the real key change coming in the future.
