It seems to me that SEO is moving so fast that many of the"brick and mortar" business owners I know-know they need to integrate SEO into their strategy, have limited knowledge on the subject and get lured into the "guaranteed ranking results" offers out there, pay for the service and not really even sure what they are getting. The corollary - if it sounds so awesomely too good to be true that you have to pinch yourself to believe that it's real, kick yourself in the butt instead. In my line of work, there are an incredible amount of scammers who prey on this exact psychology. The first sign that they are scamming is when they "guarantee" rankings at Google. When there is competition, nothing can be guaranteed, and anyone who does not understand that is not yet ready to compete. The rule is pretty simple; if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
