Indeed, this is a good post (Thanks, Ben!)
"psychological price tag" - that's describe everything in marketing :)
I always love how the Apple logo evolving through time. Having the classic rainbow-y Apple logo on your MacBook Air is not nice to see, IMO :D

Great post. In my practice, I discovered that probably the most powerful benefit a business owner can get out of his identity is to naturally prequalify his leads.
See, a logo plays a big role in a company's brand image which is a key element in the natural positioning of a company. For those who are not too familiar with positioning; for every product, we all have a psychological price tag attached to it. This price tag will determine how we perceive a product and to what category it belongs to; entry level, intermediate or high end.
In order to be successful and attract the right audience, a company's image must be in line with their offer and product rank. If you are a high-end real estate company, the right brand image will look too expensive for the guy who

Yves,
LOL - I agree with you to a certain degree, but brand identity is often all your business has to stay competitive...
Just like many people said, you and I could make a way much better burger than McDonalds, but McD is McD - they own the multi-billion dollar brand name and identity. They even can make money without the burgers, relying just on the brand name and identity!
Just a thought... thanks for sharing yours :)

Maybe "destroy your business" is a bit exaggerated, but getting a strong brand identity will certainly help your business.
However, sometimes it is the product rather than the company that should be branded strongly, and you should consider what you want/need to put forward most.
