In my opinion the amount of money you make from a blog is directly proportional to the amount of time you spend on promotion. Even if you can write compelling content you still need the traffic. There is just no other way around that hurdle.
The whole social network scene has made that easier then even before.

You have to start somewhere and the best way to do it just start it. Just do not expect easy moeny over night. And to make any progress you ahve to treat it like your own business which it is. Not as a past time.
