Internet Baby Shocks YouTube: Why Brand Storytelling Works

When it comes to video marketing, businesses need to be more creative: There are many interesting videos out there competing for your viewers’ eyeballs. You need to find a way to stand out, and we are going to talk about one of the ways every small business can do: Storytelling.

In today’s marketing, brand storytelling is becoming more important than ever. People are sick and tired getting bombarded by hard selling. Instead of pitching audience with special offers and deals, storytelling shows you what to do via, well, stories.

The next question is: What story to tell? The answer for the question is yet another question: Who will tell the story?

Babies are always popular on YouTube. Of course cats rule, but baby videos can deliver something cat videos can’t: Human touch.

Speaking about the human touch, there is a new branding video launched on YouTube which exactly explains why babies rock when it comes to driving interest – and boosting sales: Check out this “internet baby” video:

Internet baby tells the right story

Okay – real babies can’t do what the video suggest. But the point is, the video tells the right story – and the company that launched the campaign tells the message perfectly.

Today’s Generation Z is tech-savvy. They were born with technology at their fingertips. And what a good company would logically do? They support the consumers with the right technology.

MTS Internet Baby video

The “internet baby” video campaign is launched by New Delhi-based MTS, India’s telecommunication company which is the regional subdivision of Russian Mobile TeleSystems, for the launch of its 3GPLUS™ network.

With regard to the idea behind the video, Amitesh Rao, Brand and Media Director of MTS India explains, “We needed a campaign to reinforce our strongest differentiator – the fact that we have designed and optimized the MTS 3GPlus network specifically for data. At the same time we needed to be true to the MTS brand that talks to today’s 24×7, always-on, data hungry consumer for whom the internet is the biggest opportunity platform there is. The challenge of course was to do all of this in an engaging and entertaining manner, which is what the story of a
new-born baby going online to announce himself to the world does perfectly.”

Takeaway

Brandon Sanderson, the writer of The Way of Kings, quote, “The purpose of a storyteller is not to tell you how to think, but to give you questions to think upon.”

Indeed, the MTS India’s video don’t tell you how to think or what to do. Instead, the video give you something to think about and questions beg answering, and the answer of your very own questions will lead you to a conclusion – i.e.: “Are babies like that?” “Wow, kids today surely know how to deal with tech.” “Well, you’ll gonna need plenty of bandwidth to do that.” “But wait, what MTS has got to do with all that?”

Get the point? ;)

Brand storytelling works – no doubt. What you need to do now is how to be a good storyteller. Will you tell a good story to your audience?
